Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif

Here is the first installment of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.I hope you guys can read this. Its really great.

The first book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief introduced us to the modern world of Percy Jackson. A boy of age twelve living in an apartment with her mom, Sally, in Manhattan, New York City. Her mom is the like a gifted mortal who can see through The Mist. The Mist is like what keeps mortal from seeing the real look of monsters in a Greek Myth and Olympians way. (if you have the books, you'll understand me. so for those who haven't.. grab a copy in your nearest bookstores. hehe..) Her mom is living with Gabe Ugliano (who was described as a man who smells like trash, as in super awful smell). It turned out that his smell was the one protecting Percy from monster who tried to kill him. I guess you will assumed that Percy (like Perseus in the movies and Greek Myths) is the son of Zeus, the king of the Greek Gods. Apparently, the Percy in this series is the son of the Sea God, Poseidon. Yeah i know. The author got to be kidding. There's no way that Perseus will be the son of Poseidon but guys, its his book, his story. so we better get hold of his idea of making a twist on our favorite Greek Myths.

So the book 1 is about how Percy realized the truth about the Gods and his identity. Let me borrow Chiron's words.. "Every now and then, the gods will go down the earth and hook up with the mortals." So we were introduced to the Furies (who happened to be Percy's math teacher); the Minotaur (whom he defeated and made him a hero for the first time); the satyrs; the Oracle of Delphi; the Gods and Goddesses; the demigods (these are half mortal half god. They were often referred to as "Half bloods") and the Camp Half Blood Hill (where demigods are trained every summer). As per the modern day setting, the Olympus moved to America so the setting goes to New York City. Long Island is where the Camp Half Blood is. Well, mortals see it as a strawberry farm (Delphi Strawberry Service) and the Olympus was located in  the Empire State Building, which is like the busiest building in NYC.

The story was about the lightning bolt of Zeus being stolen and Percy was a suspect. It turned out that Poseidon and Zeus has misunderstanding (gods always do) and the bolt needs to be returned before the summer solstice. Solstice is when Gods gathered and convened, like a general assembly. Percy, btw is an ADHD and dyslexic since his brain is programmed for Greek materials. Grover (a satyr) rescued him in an attacked by the Fury and brought him to the Camp Half Blood. Mr. Brunner, who was his Latin Teacher turned out to be Chiron (a centaur), the son of Kronos and the head of the Camp Half Blood. In the camp, he was introduced to Anabeth Chase (daughter of Athena); Luke (son of Hermes), Clarisse (daughter of Ares) and a lot of demigods. It turned out that Luke was the thief and he wanted revenge from the Gods who never acknowledge their offspring. Luke wanted the God to step down so the demigod can rule. BTW, there was an agreement between the Big 3 (Zeus, Poseidon and Hades) that they cant have a child anymore because the demigods that they produced were the most powerful ones. and of course, the prophecy. (this is why the oracle is there - to give the prophecy) According to the prophecy, any child of the Big 3 that will turn 16 will define the future of olympus -that's why they have an agreement.

The adventures were great. We were introduced again to the characters of the Greek Myth. There's the Hydra, Medusa, nymphs and dryad, centaurs, Zeus, Poseidon, Hades (oh i love Hades! the rock star!), Athena, Ares, Artemis, Apollo, Hermes, Hera, Hestia, Hephaestus, Demeter, Aphrodite, Dionysus and the minor Gods Hecate, Nemesis, Morpheus and so on.  If you are a fan of the Greek Mythology, im sure you will love the series.

What i love about the book? The Lotus Casino.. woohoo.. this place rocks! As in you will not age here. Cool!

olympians are everywhere...

This title doesn't pop up out of the blue.

I was done reading the series "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" last night. It took me almost a month to finish the last book, Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian. I know.. Im not always like this. Like i read 300-page books in a day however because of the busy month of Jan, i wasn't able to finish up my readings. There's my baby sis getting sick and me getting tired a lot lately. I just hope that my illness is not coming back. Oh no! not this year.

Well, talking about the book. I love it. I just love it. It was a master piece. When i first started with the series, I thought that this was just another "Harry Potter" on the making. Like it was all about adventures and super hero stuffs. Like the author (Rick Riordan) just made a different setting, a different plot but basically it will turn out to be something like superhero stuffs. Well, i was wrong at one point. It was all about superhero stuffs but not the famous line, "and he saved the day." end of story. No! it was an adventure of a lifetime. Waaaah.. my being bookworm was kinda popping up lately. Like what's my favorite shop in a mall aside from F21? hmmm... a book store. Powerbooks, National Bookstore and Fullybooked are on my list of "to-go-to" every time im on a mall. Why not? A book can take you to a place you never imagined existed.

Percy Jackson is about a story of young demigod (Perseus Jackson) who lives in a modern day setting, as in as modern as New York City with the Empire State Building. Yeah it was like Perseus on the Clash of the Titans and the Greek myths that once he reached 16, he will define his destiny.. -to save or destroy the Olympus.

Here are the books in the series.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters

Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse

Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrynth

Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian

They even have a book for the demigod files and the ultimate guide to the characters. These books really helped.

What i love about it?

* It tells us that everything is this world is nothing without the Gods. Like they create every thing that you see in this world that we lived in.
* It reminds us that even Gods can make mistakes.. (they're not allowed to have children but who can explain the demigods?)
* It tells us that promises are made to be broken so be sure to oath on the River Styx everytime you asked someone to make promises. hehe.
* It tells us that no man can be incompletely invulnerable. Your greatest weakness is also your greatest hope.
* It tells us that amidst the difficulties, you will realized that family matters most.and that Hope will always be there as long as you are not freeing it. Once you lose it, everything that you ever wished for will be gone and lastly you cant abandoned a sinking ship if your friends and families are there. You will do everything to save them even if it means risking your own life.

So guys.. read it now and enjoy. =)

pink is not just a color. its a statement!

dec 18, 2010.

the big day.

it was my cousin's wedding at the fernwood gardens, qc.

it was such a long day. i went to the office at 1am to attend the christmas party of our program. and i went home at 4am. actually not home. i went to EDSA Shangrila where my family an relatives plus the bride and the groom are checked in for the big day. i felt kinda awkward to get inside the hotel because this is a five star hotel and i dont normally get inside this kind of high end hotels. dum.dum.dum.. nervousness. it was my first time to enter EDSA Shang hotel. a hotel crew accompanied me upto the 7th floor where the room was located. great. i still have time to sleep. knock.knock.knock. no one answered. grrrr... everyone's asleep. then the hotel crew called the room extension. luckily, dianne (cousin SYD's gf) was up and she opened the door. and that was the start of the day..

we dressed up and took pictures and went to fernwoods which was like an hour drive from Manda. everyone was there. relatives, cousins, friends.. the bride and groom's friends. the wedding was supposed to start at 8:15 in the morning. i know it was too early. that was why we were cramming because it was almost 5 in the morning when everyone started to wake up and took a bath and dressed up. hahaha.. you cant imagine how panicking we were.

the bride arrived late. almost 20 minutes before 9 in the morning so the wedding ceremony was kinda fast forward. like the officiating priest even said, "we're gonna make it faster because we're late in the schedule. i thought you changed your mind and you're not gonna come" (he's referring to the bride.)

the wedding ceremony ended so fast but since me and my cousins havent had anything since the day started, we were starving and we wanted it to finish so fast. hahaha. good thing the bride arrived late. hahaha. not that i was wishing that she came late. no! you should have seen my cousin's face. i have known him since we were little so i knew how frustrated and angry he was. like he didnt spent 2-m php just to be abandoned on a church full of friends and families. i know he was iritated like he was just trying to smile to show everyone that it was ok and the bride's gonna come.

the reception started so late that everyone was starving. it was like the weding was so early, and a lot of of relatives came from Laguna which is a 2-hr drive, oh lets make it 3 since the fernwoo was all the way up north manila.

the wedding was fine after all. there was this souvenir photobooth that was jammed pack. i swear it was blockbuster.

after the wedding we went home to laguna. we rode on a bus that my cousin rented for everyone from Bicol area.

we were tired. i was tired. i supposed to come to a christmas party for my org (Twilight Coven Philippines) but since i was dead tired. i never got the chance to come. a missed opportunity to see my co-twihards. tsk.

i promised, im not gonna be late on my wedding day.

reuniting memories..

"Kala ko kasi meron pa akong babalikan… wala na pala."

December 5, 2010. I went to Lucban, Quezon to witness the Regional Press Conference held at Batis Aramin. It was supposed to be a gathering of all the alumni of the Kingfisher. I was supposed to meet up with Aaron (Chubby), Alvin (Dads) and Augie at the front of Gate 2 of  SLSU at 8 in the morning however, I woke up too late to make it at 8. to my surprise, I still came early. Nothing new. Everything we're meeting up, I always came first. Sometimes I think that am I the only one who's excited to meet them? I don’t think so. Maybe because I have gotten the American culture that every minute counts.

By the way, I tried to contact everyone and it seems that everyone was still at home. Augie cant make it earlier and she'll be coming after lunch. Chubby said he was on the way.. Weeh? How far was Lucena from Lucban? Hmmm… and Dads.. He was not answering his phone. Much like him.

So I texted KF people. Luckily, Myla replied. Myla became part of the KF when we graduated. So I don’t really have any bonding with her at all. But thank goodness she's friendly. So she texted back and told me that there were still some kf on the pub. Luckily, Maymosa was there. I saw her just went out of the trike with her luggage. Hai.. I miss press cons. So I went with her in the pub and saw unfamiliar faces. They were like strangers. It was like coming to a place where you thought you still belong only to realize that you have replaced by someone else. Or lets just say, a group of new people needed to soar high so the place you used to call home suddenly became a house.

I made some phone calls to the people I was supposed to be with. After waiting for almost an hour, Chubby came. Then we went to Batis. There I saw Cessie. I miss her. My KF twin. Then I saw Teacher Choy. Hai.. Press con days are over. Its time for new birds to soar and to prove that they can do whatever we did and hopefully surpassed us, because that's what it was supposed to be right? Progenies needed to be better than the parents so the future gen will have a better future.

I suddenly realized why I was here. We went here so we can have time to update each others lives and of course, to try to teach our progenies what we used to learn as a journalist. It doesn’t necessarily mean that following our techniques will make them win, but we'll never know. We're just crossing our fingers that these juries still have the same taste after 3 long years. Now I suddenly realized how time passed by so quickly. How matured I became. Because suddenly, everyone in the crowd was so young and naïve of the real competition. It was like, they don’t have the same spirits as we used to have during our time. Way back, everyone was so excited. You could feel the urge to win and the urge to prove how great they were. That is what was missing in this crowd.

When Myla approached me to give some techniques, I suddenly remember that the last time I actually wrote was back college. Now I don’t really know if I can still write. (maybe that's why I am here write now. Trying to thread words so I can create something) I said to her, I'll try to remember how to write. Maybe familiarizing with the event will make me remember how it is to write. Then Dads came. I knew it. He would feel the same awkwardness I felt. It was maybe because, Dads is the kind of person you can easily get along with. He was some kinda quiet and serious and he don’t really talk to people he don’t know. Lets just put it that way. At least I was not the only who felt that way. Augie came then Bujoy then Reanne. I miss these people. They were my treasures before and I guess even up to now. I will keep coming back to Lucban if all these people will be there to wait for me. We took some pictures. Remembering good all days. Everything was so perfect. I know Kuya Wilyam, Kuya Essex and Lourdes will be envy about it. Well of course Janlo came. Super late. He was a speaker in a category. So he had all the excuse to be late. Hmmp! Janlo you have to admit. You were always late. Hahaha…

Anyways, Dads and I decided to stay until the morning. We talked.. Reminisce.. Remember what we were before. Good thing Cessie stayed with us. We didn’t go to the KF's room. Maybe because we felt we're not welcome anymore. Like as if the room was full of memory and there's no space left for the old ones. So we find some place were we can have a chat. A place where we can reminisce without having the thought of the new ones. Where our memories and experiences will be the lead roles.  I know we're past  the press con days but our memories will be as fresh as ever. We took some pictures so we can have memories to go back to.

The good thing about KF is that once a KF will always be KF. Now we (Dads, Cessie and I) came to a conclusion that its not the people of KF that matters. The real thing was the memories that we have with these people were the reasons why we kept coming back. And it was not Lucban that we loved. It was the people we spent our years in Lucban with that matters. Reuniting with these people made me realized that nowadays, it was a luxury to be with the company of your true friends. A luxury I would never regret doing.

she bangs..

i finally decided to wear a bangs.

hahaha.. im not really adventurous when it comes to my image but i do love to dress up. then i just woke up and i realized that i wanted to change my very usual hairstyle. i love my straight middle length hair but its just that i realized that i need to put some twist on my look. hai.. i was afraid of how i would look like. i was born to be a perfectionist that's why i hated twist. i was into plans. everything has to be planned. so if something goes wrong, at least i stick to the plan.. and most of the time, i had plan b.

and it was lately that i began to live life without a plan. it was like, someone has put a spell on me that all my plans has been erased. i must admit, i was an OC before. yeah. i mean it.. everything was planned. like what im going to wear. what im gonna eat. it was all planned.. that explained my planner and journal. id like everything to be organized. i have boxes for things and so forth..

anyway, this was really all about the la salle taft incident. i believed that the bombing was a planned one. why? because if you're going to think about it this way, a lot of people was involved. be it a frat war or just a gang war or whatever,  lots of people had been injured. now i wondered what the justices would do to give justice to these poor victims who just happened to be at the wrong place and at the wrong time. i cried while watching an interview of a dad who was explaining how hard it was to sign a waiver to cut the legs of her daughter. and that interview was sooo touching. i envy the courage of that girl. despite the fact that her two legs has been removed, she still wanted to be a lawyer. that's the spirit.

now, i wonder what happened to my spirit?

i still have two legs. i never had any accident so far. but my will to be a doctor had vanished for some reason i dont know.

i hope living a dream was like getting yourself a bangs.. so easy.
